This map shows the elevation of Spain. Much of Spain is above sea level. Spain is a very mountainous and high area. However there are areas at and below sea level located at the edges of Spain which are areas facing the Sea.

This map shows the mountains of Spain. As shown in the last map, much of Spain is a mountainous and high elevation area. This image helps to visualize where the large mountains are located as well as show many rivers and other geographical locations in the country.

Regions of Spain
This map demonstrated the local governments of Spain. These are known as autonomous communities. There are 17 of these in Spain. They have slightly less powers than that of a federation like Canada where provinces hold more powers. However, these governments do play a role in the leading of their community.

Physical Landscapes
The image above pictures Mount Teide. This is a large mountainous area in Spain. The area became a National Park in 1954. It is 12,000 feet high and is the highest peak in the whole of Spain. The park is also home to tan enormous volcanic crater which measures 30 miles in circumference.

This is a mountain located in Spain known as Aneto and is the third highest mountain. It has a height of 11,168 feet (which is 3,404 meters). This mountain range is very large but is located mostly in Aragon, Spain. This mountain is the third largest in Spain and is still very massive. This demonstrates how much of the topography of Spain is mountainous, rocky, and elevated because this mountain is incredibly high and is still not the highest.

The picture above shows the Sierra Nevada. This is a mountain range located in Spain in a region known as Andalucia. The name Sierra Nevada comes from the Spanish translation “snowy range.” The area has incredibly high peaks covered in snow which is the reason for its namesake. The area is a popular tourist location, known for its ski resort. The peak located in the Sierra Nevada known as Mulhacen is the highest continental peak in Spain.

This image is a picture of Mullhacen. This is the highest mountain peak in continental Spain. This mountain is locaed in the Seirra Nevadas. The topography on this mountain varies. The south side of the mountain is gentle and does not habve a very challenging geography. However, the north face of the mountain is much steeper and offer many climbing routes that are much more difficult.

Human Geography

This image is of the Cathedral Santiago. Spain is a country that has influences of many different religions. One of the heaviest religious influence was that of Rome. The Romans conquered Spain very early in history. They then created wonderful cathedrals such as this that can still be seen all over Spain today.

This is the church known as Sagrada Familia which is translated in Spanish as the “Holy Family.” This church is one of the most beautiful in all of the world. There is very detailed significance for every part of the cathedral. The construction for this cathedral began in 1882 and still continues to this day. The construction is expected to be completed by 2026.
